Kandy

Colombo to Kandy train

Royal Botanics Garden

The garden was huge, we loved the walking, all the big trees gave ample shade

The colors come out so sharp in Sri Lanka - sky is deep blue, ocean is deep turquoise, trees are greeeen and the bougainvilleas the most purple I have ever seen...

This giant trunk camouflaged me!

Little posing

We napped here for an hour, passing time outside until hotel check in hour

Kandy Lake, and candy Samudro

Queen's Hotel, just opposite the lake

The afternoon was so windy up our hotel rooftop

The chant from the temples and strong Kandy wind produced a divine feeling in us. We silently watched the sky turn purple, the white Buddha statues taking shape with the day light leaving the mountains and wind brushing our cheek...

Nuwara Eliya

On the epic train ride from Kandy to Nanu Oya

The landscape were changing through our train window, and kept us busy all the time, to watch the sights and capture them

bookography!

Tea gardens cover most of the landscape we saw in this journey

St Clairs fall, we caught a glimpse of it from our train

One of the neat, decorated stations out train paused

Amidst hilly, serpentine tracks the train goes its way, creating an exciting journey for its passengers

Almost all the time, you can see passengers dangling from the door of this tourist train, posing for pictures. So did we.

At unknown places, with unknown purple flowers, we brought some amazing memories

Chee chee!

Our stay in Nuwara Eliya - Sarah Cottage offered such a vintage experience

Tea tasting at a tea center. I took the the first sip from the rose tea. So so good! I bought so much tea, leaving Samudro puzzled, how would we transport them back to home...

Lover's Leap waterfall, it was a 15 minutes trek amidst forest and tea gardens. At the destination the fine aerosol from the fall brushed our skin

Lovers!

Lover (singular)

This is that forest, so many trees in Sri Lanka!

Two large rocks on the way back. It was a perfect photoshoot ground.

More rocks, setting our tripod on one, we posed for picture

Rasika, the local guide and also our driver took us here, a view point, to watch the sunset.

Soon the moon appeared in the sky, which would turn into a full moon in two days

Good morning, sunrise on the way to Horton Plains National Park

See us?

This sambar deer, was staring at us still, and click click, we took some portraits on our phone

This bunch of deers, less interested to photoshoot and more into food

Trekking inside the park. The landscape was dominated by exotic grass, chaparral like bushes

Water stream

The first stop of our hike - one of the three attractions of Horton Plains - Baker's Fall, named after a British. Mr. Baker discovered this fall, but also hunted a lot of deers.

Quick selfie on the wet platform set in front of the fall, trying to not fall down.

How long we have to trek?

At World's End, a 870 m cliff, the highest attraction of Horton Plains. From here many famous peaks of Sri Lanka, like Sri Pada, can be spot.

Look, we are at World's End!

But no, world is not ended, at least that's what the signs say

Mini World's End, another cliff and the remaining high attraction in this park

Samudro all these times at the cliff, asking me thousands of times, do not move far away, does he think me a child?

Hmm, more cheerful on plain land, when it's slightly less risky for me to fall down

Guess which direction we started.

On the way back from Horton Plains, at Ambewela. This village has many cow farms and strawberry farms. We stopped at Jagro strawberry farm's cafe. The cheesecake and fresh strawberries taste so good! This was our lunch.

In front of the strawberry farm.

In the afternoon, we woke up from our nap and retired to our cozy stay.

Could not sit outside longer for the cold wind, he he.

Our farewell morning at Nuwara Eliya

Lake Gregory

Ella

On the epic train ride from Nanu Oya to Ella. We divided our epic Kandy to Ella train ride into two phases and this was the second one.

The view from this particular route was breathtaking! The slope beside the train overlooked tea gardens, forests, settlings...

We could not manage reserved seats for this ride and stood squeezed among other tourists. An elder European couple sat on the train doorway. The man was reading from his kindle and I was ecstatic to find another soul there reading!

Reached Ella! The railway station was full of European tourists mostly.

The view from our stay at Ella, Onestar Ella, amazed us! These small hotels at hillside are so worth it!

Kittal Ella waterfall, another sight caught from our balcony

The next morning, before sunrise.

Over the cloud, the sun rose.

Bed and breakfast and view!

After a hike, we reached Nine Arches bridge. As soon as I found a washroom, relived myself and then stocked myself with this huge coconut. LOL.

Camouflage again.

Beautiful Nine Arches bridge. So many tourists come here, it seemed like a fair, he he.

In the afternoon we hiked to Little Adam's Peak. In the way, we stopped to see this huge swing operate.

Ella Rock

View after reaching Little Adam's Peak. There are three parallel peaks, this is one of them.

This came out so adorable!

Up the peak, it was so so windy. First we dried our sweat, then we wore our jackets.

On the way back from the peak

I had to stop at this tea shop. Once again, Samudro was making his judgy eyes at me - why does she buy so much tea?

Mirissa

Ravana waterfall, on the way from Ella to Mirissa

From the hill station to the coastal area. Sri Lanka is very hilly, we could spot mountains/hills everywhere. We took a long highway on the way. It was mostly empty, with trees and hills as far as could see in both sides.

At Mirissa beach.

Parrot rock

Samudro and ocean.

Sunset from Coconut tree hill

South beaches

Vibes!

Midigama

Still fishing site near Ahangama

Midigama, deep turquoise and blue

Turtle hatchery at Koggala. We took a tour, the guide was very informative, telling us how they care for these turtles, what they eat, how they reproduce.

Huge but gentle creatures

The turquoise water and golden sand of Unawatuna beach

Galle

Walking on the street of Galle makes you think you are walking on a different era. The calmness, the neat and tidy placement of the vintage architecture - so tangible.

The Dutch architectures are intact. Hotels, restaurants, shops carefully kept them alive.

After having brunch, we sprawled under a tree, reading a bit, until we can check in to our hotel

In the afternoon, we did a tour around this periphery of Galle fort.

Clock tower

Most of the shops of this road are gem shops. Sri Lanka boasts itself for a varieties of gems found here.

Samu, in front of the light house.

The Indian ocean surrounding the Galle fort.

Sunset

Night view from Galle street is amazing too

Sri Sudharmalaya temple

We dined at this place, so well preserved vibes, once again!

Colombo

Morning train from Galle to Colombo

What a pleasant ride with the ocean waves just a few feet from the train

This random shot came out colorful!

Grand Oriental Hotel

A tour around Colombo fort

The roads in Colombo were so empty and neat

Huge room!

And a gothic view

Galle Face Green, a beach park in the heart of Colombo, it was vast, clean and kid friendly

The high rises just opposite the park

Crushing waves

What a beautiful way to end the day in city life, lounge in this park amidst nature!

Lotus tower

Our final sunset in the trip. Bye bye Sri Lanka, bye bye the fierce Indian ocean. Pocketing so much memories!
