One Hundred Years of Solitude : A mixed review

Book author : Gabriel Garcia Marquez

For the past few days, I was wandering in the maze of One Hundred Years of Solitude. What I perceived from this book is very little compared to what it intended to deliver. I had a feeling that it's a GREAT book, but sadly I couldn't get it— partly because of the tumult of the story and partly because of the kind of writing I am not a fan of.

The underlying spirit of this book was interesting to me. It was about the pathetic course of human history that changes always yet don't forget to repeat its mistakes. I was very excited after reading the first chapter. Slowly I was confused by the very fast pacing of the story. The incidents seemed mythological to me. And as I am not a fan of mythology, I honestly couldn't enjoy reading it. The sentences were very long with words that I didn't hear before. So, my takeaway from this book is— I got to learn and note more than one hundred words by searching through the online dictionary.

I think there are multiple ways to look at this book. If you look at it the right way, it can be the gem of your read bookshelf. And if you don't find interest in this book after reading the first few chapters, I wouldn't persuade you to continue your reading. I myself think that I could have enjoyed my time better by reading some other book.
